PAINTSVILLE — Dr. Andrew M. Harris joined the urology department at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, Aug. 1.

Dr. Harris specializes in minimally invasive approaches to complex urological problems and will be the first and only daVinci® trained urologist in the area. This high-tech, minimally invasive technique can mean less pain, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to daily activities for patients facing urologic surgery.

Dr. Harris is a skilled laparoscopic surgeon that has performed over 4,000 surgical cases. Dr. Harris graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. He graduated with a #1 rank from the University of Kentucky, School of Medicine. Dr. Harris completed his General Surgery and Urological Surgery Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in which he served as Chief Resident in his final year. The University of Pennsylvania’s Urological Surgery Residency is considered one of the top training programs in the country.

He serves as Chairman of the Department of Urology at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. During which, Dr. Harris will establish the hospital’s urological protocol for the daVinci® Robotic Surgical System to perform robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery.

During his medical career, Dr. Harris has several publications, reviews, presentations and received numerous awards. He is married to Paintsville native, Whitney Castle Harris, and has two daughters.
