PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg High School football program has a busy weekend ahead. Prestonsburg will host a Red-White scrimmage on Saturday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. The intra-squad scrimmage is open to the public. The scrimmage will allow Prestonsburg football fans an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Blackcats prior to the season-opener in two weeks.
The tradition-rich Prestonsburg football program will hold its media day on Sunday at 7 p.m. inside Blackcat Stadium.
Prestonsburg is the preseason favorite in Class 2A, District 8. The Blackcats are picked ahead of Floyd County foe Betsy Layne, defending champion Leslie County and Shelby Valley in the very competitive district.
The talented Blackcats will visit Breathitt County on Friday, Aug. 10 for a scrimmage versus Bryan Station, which is picked to finish fourth in Class 6A, District 7, ranked behind Lexington counterpart Henry Clay and 2011 state runner-up Scott County (14-1). The Defenders ended last season 7-5. Bryan Station is picked ahead of Lexington rival Paul Dunbar (1-10) in its district.
Veteran head coach John DeRossett, the all-time winningest coach in the history of the Prestonsburg High School football program, guides the Blackcats.
