LEXINGTON - The Allen Central High School volleyball team competed in the Bluegrass State Games over the weekend. Allen Central fared well, winning its initial pool during the statewide event.

The Rebels blanked Ballard 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) to win their pool.

Following the victory over Ballard, Allen Central won its next two matches 2-1, defeating North Bullitt (17-21, 21-14, 15-12) and Lexington Catholic (16-21, 21-13, 15-12).

Eventual pool winner North Oldham bested the Rebels 2-0 (21-17, 21-16). With the loss, Allen Central finished second in the pool.

On Sunday, Allen Central faced Bowling Green in Flight 2. Bowling Green beat the Rebels 2-1 (21-17, 10-21, 15-11). Allen Central was dominant in the second set, rolling past Bowling Green 21-10.

“All in all, it was a fantastic weekend and I am proud of the way the girls played and executed their defense,” Allen Central Coach Larry Maynard commented. “They will be a tough bunch this year if we stay healthy and determined.”

Allen Central is the defending 15th Region champion and expected to contend for another title in 2012. This weekend, Allen Central will host its annual preseason invitational tournament/referee clinic at J.E. Campbell Arena. The Rebels will open the 2012 season later in the month.
