MOREHEAD - Morehead State University seniors Donte Sawyer, Joey Clegg, Eric Matteson and Rainer Duzan have been tabbed to the official 2012 All-Pioneer Football League preseason squads.
“These four individuals have performed at a high level during their Morehead State careers, and we’re looking forward to big contributions from them in 2012,” MSU Coach Matt Ballard said.
Sawyer, a native of Acworth, Ga., tallied 60 catches last season for 904 yards and a school-record 12 touchdowns. He also owns MSU’s career record for TD receptions (16).
Clegg, who hails from Westerville, Ohio, blocked for a unit that led the league in first downs (25.2), total yards (478.9), passing yards (358.2) and points (36.1) per game a year ago.
Matteson, a product of Saline, Mich., joined Clegg on the offensive line to help Morehead State establish eight team school records and nine individual institution standards in 2011.
Duzan, a native of Dublin, Ohio, led all kickers in the conference with 85 points a season ago. He knocked down 12-of-17 field-goal attempts and 49-of-51 extra-point tries.
“Donte, Joey, Eric and Rainer will be looked to for leadership on and off the field this season,” Ballard added. “Their efforts will certainly help dictate the amount of success we enjoy as a team.”
The Eagles begin regular-season action on Thursday, Aug. 30, when Southern Virginia visits Jayne Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. It will be the first of six home games for the MSU in 2012.
