CARLISLE, Ohio - Former Prestonsburg High School baseball teammates Trey Stapleton and Dalton Shepherd reunited late last week on a summer team. Shepherd joined Stapleton as a member of the Ohio Panthers. Stapleton, who has enjoyed a successful run with the squad, pitched to his former batterymate during the tournament.

The Ohio Panthers competed in the Phoenix Bats National Championship late last week. The tournament featured 38 teams competing in three divisions. Pool play in the tournament went Wednesday through Friday. The teams were placed into three divisions due to bad weather.

The Panthers competed in the bronze division.

On Saturday, Stapleton pitched Ohio to an impressive 5-0 win over a team from Cleveland. Stapleton tossed a three-hit shutout. Shepherd caught for the Panthers during Stapleton’s stellar pitching performance.

The Panthers defeated the Outlaws, a team from Terre Haute, Ind., 11-6 in the second game.

Stapleton started the game at first base. Following some pitching changes, Stapleton moved to third base.

Stapleton was 2-for-4 with one walk on Saturday. Shepherd was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Stapleton could be back in action this fall with another team. He is headed into his senior season with the Prestonsburg High School baseball team.
