WILLIAMSON, W.Va. - Veteran driver John Blankenship and the Number 23 Inc. team traveled to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska, July 20-21 for the 2nd Annual Silver Dollar Nationals. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned the mega-event, which boasted a hefty $26,000 payday. In the unique two heat race format on Friday night, Blankenship finished fourth in a first prelim and second in his final heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the fifth row in the 80-lap main event, Blankenship hung around the top 10 and eventually posted a solid ninth place performance. He is ranked sixth in the latest LOLMDS point standings following the event held at I-80. Blankenship and Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) have formed a partnership that will move the 2009 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year into the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Blankenship is slated to make his debut in a TBR Chevrolet sponsored by Coal America’s Energy at Iowa Speedway on August 4. In addition to Iowa, Blankenship will run with TBR in the final three races of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, which will take place at Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 3, Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 10 and the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 17. Coal America’s Energy will be Blankenship’s sponsor in all four races.
