Beaver Creek 10-11-year-olds outlast P’burg in slugest

PRESTONSBURG - After both 10-11-year-old Little League teams dropped an opening round game in the State Tournament, Beaver Creek and host Prestonsburg met at StoneCrest Park on Sunday. The Floyd County matchup yielded 34 runs between the two teams. Beaver Creek plated nine runs in the sixth inning to pull away for a 21-13 win over Prestonsburg.

Beaver Creek pitcher Dustin Huff earned the win.

The Beaver Creek All-Star team benefitted from run production throughout its lineup. Combs and Conley, two of the top three hitters in the Beaver Creek order, delivered four runs apiece. Beaver Creek scored two or more runs in five of six innings.

Combs, Conley and Ousley each had three hits apiece for the Beaver Creek baseball team.

The two Floyd County foes swapped leads. Prestonsburg led 4-3 at the conclusion of the opening inning. The Prestonsburg All-Stars also enjoyed a five-run outburst in the third inning. But Beaver Creek answered. Clinging to a 12-11 lead, Beaver Creek manufactured nine runs during its final plate appeareance.

Prestonsburg only managed two runs in its final at-bat.

For Prestonsburg, Garrison Yates, Cody Marsillett, Harrison Ward and Andrew Hale each had two hits.

Ward was the losing pitcher for the Prestonsburg All-Stars.

On Saturday, during the opening round of the State Tournament, Franklin-Simpson defeated Prestonsburg 16-1 (four innings) and Knox County blanked Beaver Creek 23-0 (four innings).

On Monday, Franklin Simpson shut out Beaver Creek 14-0 (four innings) and Knox County pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 16-0 (three innings).
