MELVIN - Breylee Holbrook, a 17-year-old senior at South Floyd High School, recently captured his 40th career win in kart racing. Holbrook, who races regularly at Mountaineer Kartway, notched his 40th career win on Saturday, July 6. He is leading the points standings in the Limited Class and is second in the Stocker Class. He just started running Box Stock to rest the Stocker some weekends.

Holbrook and his crew, which is dubbed Long Shot Racing, plan to race at Dumplin Valley, Tenn., and Clay City in the Stocker Class until they are able to secure another sponsor to purchase a Box Stock Project Motor. His graphics have always been sponsored by Ameritint of Pikeville (Melissa and Scott Hopkins).

Holbrook doesn’t let a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis slow him down. Racing is sometimes an escape for him. While the entire family enjoys it so well, his dad, Tim Vicars, and crew chief Hatler Collins, are his biggest fans.

“Of course, I am pretty sure they are living a little bit through him,” Breylee’s mother, Monette Vicars commented. “They will prep and stagger tires and twist this and tighten that all week to have Breylee’s karts specifically tailored to him and his weight. His nanny, Peggy Holbrook and Beth Williamson are in charge of cleaning and prepping tires each time the kart comes off the track. I do the changing of gears, oils changes and whatever else comes up.”

Holbrook isn’t done racing in the 2012 season. He’s hoping to add to his 40 career wins.
