ASHLAND - On Sunday, the Tug Valley Bass Anglers held its fifth tournament of the 2012 season on the Ohio River. A total of 26 anglers competed in the event. Longtime angler Lynn Fields pulled away to win the highly-competitive tournament.
The Ohio River was at normal elevation and the water was clear to lightly stained. Weather for the tournament was good with cloudy skies and occasional light rain during the first half of the day. Mostly sunny skies were present during the last half of the day with light winds and an air temperature around 90 degrees.
The fishing was good for the river, with almost every member weighing in a fish. Year in and year out, this has been one of the club’s best tournaments.
The main pattern for the tournament was to fish soft plastic lures on any wood cover in one to six feet of water on the main river. Lures that imitated bait fish were the top producers. The total amount of fish weighed in was 56.73 pounds.
The top finishers were as follows: 1. Lynn Fields (5 fish), 8.34 lbs.; 2. Michael Salyer (5 fish), 6.28 lbs.; 3. Joe Collins (4 fish), 5.93 lbs.; 4. Kevin Runyon (5 fish), 5.54 lbs.; 5. Andy Maynard (4 fish), 4.26 lbs.; 6. Keith Pacific (2 fish), 3.53 lbs.; 7. Shawn Smith (4 fish) 3.52 lbs.; 8. Lacy Edmiston (2 fish), 3.50 lbs.; 9. Bryan Fields (2 fish), 3.24 lbs.; 10. MO (2 fish) 2.87 lbs.
