MOREHEAD - The Prestonsburg High School volleyball team made a strong showing in the Morehead State University Team Camp held last week. Prestonsburg finished third in the Gold Tournament held as part of the camp.
There were 34 teams at the MSU Team Camp. Prestonsburg competed in the 16-team Gold Tournament. The Blue Tournament featured 18 squads.
Senior setter Sadie Slone led Prestonsburg as it placed third. The Lady Blackcats, under the direction of head coach Aprile Newsome, placed third after losing their last two matches to Bethlehem and Woodford County, respectively.
The camp consisted of drills, scrimmages and a tournament that was conducted during the last two sessions.
Sylvia Justice (Eighth), Hannah Depoy (Eighth), Brandi Castle (Sophomore), Allison Hale (Junior), Elizabeth Collins(Senior), Kaitlyn Campbell (Junior), Chasity Sizemore (Junior), Shantale Collins (Sophomore) and Erin Castle (Sophomore) also competed for the Lady Blackcats during the tournament.
Prestonsburg will travel to Lexington to compete in the Bluegrass State Games July 27-29.
