Stapleton, Panthers make strong showing in Midwest Classic

DAYTON, Ohio - Prestonsburg Blackcat Trey Stapleton helped the Ohio Panthers reach the final round of six over the weekend in the 38-team Midwest Classic. The Panthers compiled a 4-0 record in games played Thursday-Saturday. Ohio suffered its first loss on Sunday morning at the University of Dayton.

Stapleton played catcher for most of the weekend. He also played third base and pitched one inning. On the mound, Stapleton allowed one run on one hit. During his stint on the mound, Stapleton faced several accomplished hitters.

The Prestonsburg High School student-athlete also contributed offensively. Stapleton was 2-for-4 in one of the games played as part of the tournament. The Prestonsburg High School baseball player will play for the Ohio-based squad for another month.

Stapleton and the Panthers are scheduled to begin play in a tournament at Valparaiso University in Indiana during the upcoming weekend.
