PRESTONSBURG — Local dignitaries joined area Boy Scouts Tuesday night to pay tribute to Dennis Dorton, bestowing upon him Scouting’s “Distinguished Citizen Award.”

Dorton, who will be retiring from his post as president and CEO of Citizens National Bank at the end of July, was humbled by the honor.

“Scouting has been an important part of my life,” Dorton said. “Thank you for this award.”

In addition to growing up in Boy Scouts, Dorton was briefly a Scoutmaster in the 1970s, but gave it up after meeting his future bride, Jean.

“After I met Jean, I had other interests,” Dorton said.

Paula Howard, vice president of Citizens, introduced Dorton and described him as the perfect person to receive the award.

“Denny has been a shining example of the Boy Scout Law,” Howard said. “He is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”
