HILLARD, Ohio - Prestonsburg High School student-athlete Trey Stapleton resumed play on the baseball diamond Tuesday evening after making the trip north to neighboring Ohio. Stapleton, who played catcher for the Ohio Panthers, finished 1-for-2 with two walks in a winning effort. The Panthers prevailed, outlasting the Columbus Wizards 10-7 in eight innings.
Stapleton, who also plays basketball at Prestonsburg High School, made his debut for the Ohio Panthers as a pitcher. He has since played catcher, first base and third base for the Ohio-based baseball team.
Stapleton pitched the last five innings in another game on Wednesday as the Panthers pulled away to beat the Lancaster Surge 5-4 at Lancaster High School. The Ohio club won in extra innings for the second time in as many days.
The Panthers are currently competing in the Midwest Classic in Miami, Ohio.
