A Floyd County man is in jail after a strange night in which a woman covered in blood showed up at a police officer’s front door.

According to police reports, a Floyd County sheriff’s deputy was at home when a woman, her face swollen and covered in blood, came to his house and alleged that James Newsome “had kicked her in the head with steel-toed boots.”

When police went to Newsome’s residence, the police report alleges Newsome also kicked and punched at the arresting officer. The report charges Newsome was under the influence of alcohol.

The police report alleges Newsome beat his girlfriend so bad she had to be flown to Saint Mary’s Hospital, in Huntington.

James Anthony Newsome, 37, of Dwale, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault (domestic violence), possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and third-degree assault of a police officer.

Newsome pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault of the same victim in January. He is being held on $100,000 cash bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 13.
