BEREA - Alice Lloyd College basketball player Ariel Nickell has been named the KIAC Female Athlete of the Year, conference officials announced Thursday.
The Alice Lloyd sophomore was also named the conference’s women’s basketball player of the year earlier for the 2011-12 season. Nickell played in 32 games this season, scoring 719 points, which ranked third in the NAIA. She was also fourth in points per game (22.47), fifth in defensive rebounds per game (7.3), 15th in total rebounds per game (9.5) and 18th in total steals (80). The Eagles finished third in the regular season with a conference record of 6-5.
In addition to being named conference player of the year, Nickell received a number of other honors. She was named a NAIA Second Team All-American and selected for the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame “Ring of Honor”. The “Ring of Honor” included a select few women’s basketball players from around the country who were asked to send a jersey to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn. Her jersey will join 99 other jerseys of women’s basketball players selected from all levels recognizing female basketball players who excelled as part of remarkable seasons.
