Run ‘em on the Runway: Arm Drop Drags ready to roll

PRESTONSBURG - Kent Rose is ready to run ‘em on the runway. Excitement for the Arm Drop Drags continues to build as Rose and hundreds of others can’t wait go drag racing. In just days, Combs Airport, located on Rt. 321 between Prestonsburg and Paintsville, becomes Eastern Kentucky’s horsepower home. The event will kick off on Friday with a cruise-in. On Saturday, drag racing takes over the Eastern Kentucky venue.

Pop’s Chevrolet is onboard as the presenting sponsor of the Arm Drop Drags. Prestonsburg Motorsports, a not for profit organization, has banded together with the City of Prestonsburg, Paintsville Tourism and the City of Paintsville for the second running of the Arm Drop Drags.

“The local sponsors, especially Pop’s Chevrolet, which is our primary sponsor, have made this great event possible,” Rose said. “Paintsville Tourism Commission, the City of Prestonsburg and the City of Paintsville have really come on strong. along with many local businesses.”

All of those involved with Prestonsburg Motorsports have put safety first. Barriers have already been installed at Combs Airport. Fencing is scheduled to be completed at the racing venue on Thursday.

Jeff Lutz is among the big-name drag racers already registered for the Arm Drop Drags. Lutz will be bringing his famous ‘57 Chevy to Combs Airport.

Rose has confirmed that several turbo cars will be at the Arm Drop Drags.

The local drag racing event will be horsepower-packed. Grady Underwood is bringing a dragster to the highly-anticipated Arm Drop Drags.

Numerous activities will be held in conjunction with the cruise-in Friday night. A cornhole tournament is among the activities that will be held along with the test-and-tune session.

Registration for the Arm Drop Drags remains open. Organizers are expecting well over 100 cars, which was the turnout for the inaugural event in early-September 2011. The first 100 drivers who register will receive a gift bag.
