PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College baseball team played host to New River Community College on Friday evening. A nice crowd was on hand to witness Senior Day for a school-record 11 young men. The ALC fans were treated to a solid display of baseball as they were able to witness the home team pull out a convincing 9-3 victory.
Before the matchup, ALC mentor Scott Cornett recognized the following seniors: Will Leonard, Jeff Cyrus, Dustin Kingsmore, Shannon Roberts, Will Ray, Trey King, Trevor Corns, Lewis Michael, Taylor Sewell, Devon Pelfrey and Devon Denson. Each young man was applauded for his numerous contributions to the school and athletic program. The contest opened after the emotional ceremony.
ALC quickly struck with three runs in their opening at-bat and slowly added to the lead. On the afternoon, Alice Lloyd outhit its guest 15-7.
King led the hit parade, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI. Pelfrey went 3-for-4 (including one double) with a game-leading three RBI. Cyrus and Brandon Arnold each contributed two hits each with Cyrus knocking a triple and adding two RBI of his own. In addition, Leonard, Sewell and Kingsmore each added one hit apiece.
Not to be upstaged by his teammates, Eagles pitcher Corns tossed eight brilliant innings of four-hit ball. He struck out five while registering no walks in his final game on the home mound.
