PIKEVILLE – Andreas Klein’s career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues, from London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the German-born pianist Klein will perform at the University of Pikeville at 7:30 p.m. in Chrisman Auditorium.

Klein established a reputation as a dynamic and compelling performer who is known for his imaginative interpretations and his command of a wide range of tonal colors. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School and complemented his studies with the legendary Claudio Aarau and Nikita Magaloff. Copies of his Dissertation on the Chopin Etudes are in the libraries of the Chopin Society in Vienna and Leipzig. Klein is a frequent guest on the radio at WGBH Boston, American Public Radio in St. Paul Studio, WFMT Chicago, Cleveland and Houston. He has been the subject of a televised “Musicians Portrait” in Berlin, filmed at the Neuhardenberg Castle, and “Intermezzo with Andreas Klein,” a series of short piano works with visuals, was aired by PBS nationwide.

The New York Times described Klein as “A pianist who makes silences sound like music.” The Desert News in Salt Lake City wrote, “Klein’s interpretative skills, his musicality and technical acumen allowed for a very musical reading that was complemented by the ensemble.”

Klein will conduct a master class for University of Pikeville vocal students, focusing on achieving the ideal creative and collaborative performance between vocalist and pianist.

The free performance is hosted by the University of Pikeville’s special events committee. The campus and community are cordially invited.
