Hundreds of people visited Cornettsville this past weekend for the annual Battle of Leatherwood re-enactment, a three-day event commemorating the skirmish that estimates say killed between two and five Civil War soldiers. The battle took place at a salt refinery that both sides felt was crucial to the success of holding the area. The 2011 Battle of Leatherwood marked the 149th anniversary of the Perry County skirmish. Much like the actual Civil War, friends and relatives in Perry County fought on opposing sides over what both believed to be right. This re-enactment included a ladies tea, a church service, historic battle music, food and crafts and the actual battle.
