MARTIN — A Pike County man was arrested this past weekend after officials say he stole roughly 200 gallons of diesel fuel.

According to a Floyd County Sheriff’s Office report, Danny Stewart, of Elkhorn City, was arrested Sunday, after deputies caught the man stealing fuel.

“The violator took approximately 200 gallons of off-road diesel fuel from NFC mining fuel tank,” said Deputy Robert Caudill is his report.

According to Caudill, “Fuel was pumped into two tanks and a 55 gallon drum that was strapped on to the violator’s rollback truck.”

According to the report, Stewart is an employee of Blackhawk Mining, in Martin.

Stewart is charged with theft by unlawful taking over $500; a Class D Felony. If found guilty, he could receive 1-to-5 years in prison, and a $1,000 to $10,000 fine.
