Hi Hat - As with most extracurricular activities, fundraising is generally left up to the team and the parents, which is why it's understandable that they should become angry when one steals their profits.

In attempting to raise money for new uniforms, the South Floyd Raiders baseball team had sold signs to area businesses and placed them along the fence around the field, only to find in the last few weeks three of them have already been stolen.

The stolen signs include one each from Oxygen Plus, Prestonsburg VFW and Area Wide Repair Heating & Cooling. Now it will be up to the team to have to replace them.

“It's going to cost over $200 to replace these signs,” said team treasurer and parent Shana Mitchell. “That's money that we need for other things.”

In addition to purchasing uniforms, the field, located on Route 122 at Drift, has been renovated over the past two years. Mitchell says the team hopes to be able to add a concession stand and a scoreboard, all of which will now be postponed until the signs are replaced.

“We just want to apologize to the businesses,” said Mitchell. “Hopefully we can figure out who's doing this and stop it from happening again.”

Though a police report has been filed, Mitchell said she was told there wasn't really anything that could be done unless there was a suspect.

If anyone has information regarding the stolen signs, they are asked to call Mitchell at (606) 377-0491.
