MOREHEAD - Martin Samarco scored 22 points to lead Bowling Green to a 90-72 win over Morehead State in an O'Reilly Auto Parts ESPNU BracketBusters game Saturday afternoon in Johnson Arena.
Bowling Green, now 12-14 on the season, also got 19 points from Nate Miller and 18 points from Erik Marschall.
Morehead State, 11-16, was led by Jamyron Steward who scored 14 points in a reserve role. Shaun Williams and Brandon Callahan had 10 points each.
The Falcons shot a red-hot 60 percent (33-of-55) from the field, including 10-of-17 from three-point range. MSU hit only 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the field. Bowling Green out-rebounded the Eagles, 36-to-38. Both teams had 13 turnovers.
"They are a very physical team, and their size and strength created problems for us," said MSU Coach Donnie Tyndall. "We changed up our defenses some, but they are so efficient with their motion offense against a man-to-man. And, when we went to a zone, it seemed like they would always knock down a three-pointer."
The Falcons led 44-24 at halftime, and the Eagles were only able to reduce the margin by two points in the second half.
MSU will return to Ohio Valley Conference action with a league doubleheader on Thursday at Tennessee State. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. CST (6:30 p.m. EST), the men's game at around 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. EST).
