Piarist School girls out for 2006-07 season

MARTIN - Piarist School officials have confirmed the school won't field a girls' basketball team for the 2006-07 season. Not enough Piarist School female students showed interest in playing basketball during the 2006-07 campaign. The Lady Knights posted a 2-23 record during the 2005-06 season with Gloria Mullins at the helm for a first season.

Girls' basketball could return to Piarist School in future years.

Piarist School boys' basketball team, under the guidance of head coach Greg Friend, will return for the 2006-07 campaign.

Piarist School basketball teams play out of the 60th District along with Pike County schools Belfry, Phelps and Pike County Central. In addition to being members of both the 60th District and 15th Region, Piarist School basketball teams also compete in the Three Rivers Conference. Oneida Baptist Institute, Riverside Christian and Buckhorn also compete in the Three Rivers Conference.

Belfry ended the Piarist girls' basketball team's season last season, beating the Lady Knights in the opening round of the 60th District Tournament. The Lady Knights posted wins over Riverside Christian and Jackson City last season .
