Betsy Layne rode the momentum of a 26-22 win over Powell County into Cumberland Friday night for a game against the host Redskins. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, none of that momentum carried over into Week Three. Cumberland scored early and often on its way to a 53-0 victory over the Bobcats. In two games, Cumberland has outscored opponents 98-13. The Redskins opened the season Friday, Aug. 25 with a 45-13 win over Jenkins.

Betsy Layne wasn't the only Floyd County high school football team to be shut out Friday night. South Floyd, playing on the road at East Ridge, also failed to produce any points. The Warriors got on the scoreboard early on and rolled to a 40-0 win over the Raiders. The loss was the first of the season for South Floyd.

Betsy Layne and South Floyd will each have a chance to get back in the win column this Friday night. The Bobcats are due back in action on the road at Magoffin County. South Floyd will hit the road against Friday night and travel to Phelps for a pivotal Class A, District 8 matchup versus the Hornets. Kickoff for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.
