Residents of Prestonsburg Health Care Center have spent the warm weather months busily engaged in a variety of outdoor activities. The center's recreation director and staff have embarked on daily strolls down the streets and avenues of Prestonsburg, gone on afternoon fishing expeditions, paid regular visits to the Floyd County Library, lunched at Billy Ray's Restaurant, and more.

The activities have been coordinated by center staff through the "Quality of Life Initiative" conducted by the center's restorative and physical therapy departments. The Quality of Life initiative seeks to improve both the physical and mental aspects of a patient's recovery process and the general well-being of all residents.

This past summer, Prestonsburg Health Care Center residents have visited many of the city's various attractions and parks, as well as going on daytime excursions to various points of interest throughout the county. Center staff report that the residents enjoy being involved in community life as they meet and greet other city and county residents and visitors to the area.

A favorite activity is to visit Prestonsburg's Save-A-Lot store to shop for snacks and supplies for cooking classes, another fun activity that the residents have enjoyed this summer.

Visiting the Floyd County Library to see magic shows and participate in the library's story hour has also been a favorite activity for many.

Eating out and touring Jenny Wiley State Resort Park to fish and see the ducks, geese and other wildlife has also been a favorite activity of interest for many residents.

It is the belief of the Prestonsburg Health Center director and staff that these outings provide their residents with wonderful opportunities to remain an integral part of community life and to actively participate in meaningful life activities. They thank all area businesses for welcoming their involvement and encouraging their visits. Center staff look forward to continuing the outdoor activities throughout the coming beautiful fall season.
