McDOWELL - A Floyd County couple is suing the Floyd County Board of Education and a bus driver who allegedly wrecked her bus in April.

Jacqueline and Willie Moore, of Frasure's Creek, filed a complaint against bus driver Dwanna T. Johnson and the board for an accident that occurred April 6 on Route 1929 in McDowell.

The couple, represented by Pikeville attorney Glenn M. Hammond, allege that Johnson "operated a school bus occupied with children in a careless and negligent manner" when she collided with a vehicle driven by Jacqueline, who Moore was driving south on Route 1929.

Moore "tried to get over as far as possible," Hammond claims, but Johnson "continued toward" Moore, striking the driver's side of the vehicle.

The couple requests a trial by jury and compensation for medical expenses, mental anguish, economic loss, loss of the ability "to enjoy life" and (for Willie Moore) his loss of consortium.

Supt. Paul Fanning would not comment about the suit, which has been forwarded to the school board's attorney.
