Delmer Tackett, 68, of Teaberry, was killed Thursday when he was pulling out of the Double Kwik at Goody and proceeded onto the highway despite the presence of a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder which obscured his view of the road. Tackett's 1992 Toyota Camry was struck by a 1982 Peterbilt flatbed truck which collided with the driver's side door of Tackett's vehicle.
A passenger in the Tackett's car, Mary Dotson, 29, also of Teaberry, was airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Attempting to avoid a collision can also lead to accidents and that was the case here as a 2003 Volvo tractor-trailer tried to avoid the wreck and impacted the rear of a 2004 Mitsubishi Explorer.
The driver and passenger of that car were injured and admitted to South Williamson ARH. They were Bobby Lour, 24, and his wife, Cherish Lour, 26, of Pinson Fork.
The driver of the Peterbilt, John G. Ray, 35, of Albany, Ohio, and the driver of the Volvo, Donnie R. Riggins, 48, of Wilkesborro, N.C., were not injured.
All parties involved in the accidents were wearing seatbelts.
