GARRETT – The Allen Central Lady Rebels defeated visiting Prestonsburg 10-1 Thursday, toppling the Lady Blackcats for a key 58th District/Floyd County Conference softball win.

Allen Central beat Prestonsburg for its third straight win. The Lady Rebels, thanks to the win, improved to 4-2 in the district. Prestonsburg carried a 3-2 district record out of the early-May matchup.

Allen Central senior pitcher Shea Spurlock claimed the win. Spurlock registered seven strikeouts in a complete game victory.

The Lady Blackcats struggled to get going offensively. Minus run support, Prestonsburg senior pitcher Alexis DeRossett suffered the loss.

Senior leadership from a trio of seniors – Spurlock, first baseman Sarah Kinney and left fielder Tiffany Burdzilauskas – has aided Allen Central throughout the season.

“It’s nice having senior leadership like we do this year,” Allen Central Coach Don Burke commented. “They have been showing the young players through their leadership how to approach and play the game. We are looking forward to the remainder of the season and district.”

Spurlock, Kinney and second baseman Elizabeth Campbell each had three hits for the Lady Rebels. Freshman shortstop Brooklyn Martin and eighth-grade third baseman Alyssa Moore added one hit apiece for Allen Central in the district game. Spurlock and Moore each had one RBI

Kinney contributed a game-high four RBI for the Lady Rebels. Martin and Campbell each had three RBI in the win.
