UPike softball program signs Ohio standout
PIKEVILLE A standout infielder from Lucasville, Ohio, will play softball next season for the newly-named University of Pikeville.
Kaitlyn Patrick of Valley High School signed a scholarship agreement with UPike on Tuesday afternoon at her high school.
Patrick has been a four-year varsity starter for the Indians, spending time at both second and third base. This season, she is hitting .450 with an on-base percentage of .519 and a robust slugging percentage of .572.
In doing so, Patrick has helped lead the Indians to a spot near the top of the Div. III ratings, where they currently stand fourth.
Last season Valley was the Div. III regional runner-up, dropping a 17-inning heartbreaker. The team finished fourth in the state in 2010.
Pikeville finished its season 19-22.
It was announced on Saturday that Pikeville College will become the University of Pikeville on July 1. Founded in 1889, UPike has been known as Pikeville College since becoming a four-year institution in 1956.
