Big Sandy Area Community Action Program Head Start officials recently hosted a luncheon in Paintsville to honor parent contributions to the Head Start program during the past year. Parents from each of the five Big Sandy counties with children enrolled in Head Start are asked to submit a letter detailing what Head Start has done for them, based solely on how much their lives have been positively impacted by being involved with Head Start. A winner from each program is then selected.

“We have so many good parents that help us,” says Big Sandy Area Community Action Program Executive Director James Michael Howell. “Their dedicated service to Head Start is truly appreciated.”

The winners were recognized at the luncheon and presented commemorative plaques in honor of the occasion.

Those receiving awards included:

  • Jessica Kiser, Floyd County winner and overall winner

  • Patricia Hunt, Martin County winner

  • Mark Watson, Model City

  • Stephanie Howard, Magoffin County.

  • Jeanna Hatfield, Pike County

  • Marnie Williams, Paintsville City

  • Hayley Blanton, home-based.

Head Start, launched in 1965, is administered by Big Sandy Area Community Action Program via contracts with the boards of education throughout the five-county Big Sandy region. For more information on Head Start, call 789-1600 or 789-1623.
