Bro. Bill VanHoose, 78, of Mt. Vernon died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at the Rockcastle Regional Hospiatl. He was born on Aug. 30, 1932, in Estill, the son of the late Edward and Elsie Music VanHoose. He had been a machinist and had a radio program “Trumpet of Zion on WRVK.” He was a veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years; Dottie Edwards VanHoose of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Gary VanHoose of Georgetown, Ron VanHoose of Nashville, Tenn., and Tom VanHoose of Ft. Lyons, Colo.; two daughters, Kathy Timmons of Colorado City, Colo. and Becky Peters of Manchester, Conn.; four sisters, Ruth Cecil and Rose Mary Smith, both of Lincoln Park, Mich., Vertie Owsley of Franklin, Ohio, and Lucille Barker of Middletown, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Sara and Lara VanHoose, Clinton and Boe Walker, Jarrod and Adam Peters, Jennifer Ollis and Mendy Malmberg; five great grandchildren, Jacob and Logan Ollis, Ethan and Avery Walker and Walker Malmberg.

He was preceded in death by: three brothers, Traber, Randall and Jim “Pie” VanHoose; and three sisters, Hazel Cooper, Virginia Sizemore and Gertrude Burkett.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy McPheron, Bro. Don Stayton, and Bro. Dencil Owsley officiating. Burial was in Crest Haven Cemetery.
