MINNIE — Elkhorn Recreation and Education Park will be the site of fun, sweat and cheers, Sunday, as hundreds of people gather to celebrate physical fitness.

Sponsored by the Floyd County Cooperative Extension Service, Second Sunday is an event geared toward promoting exercise in local residents by showing them fun ways to do it.

The event will begin at 2:30 p.m., at the park, which is located near the intersection of Route 680 and Route 777, near Minnie. Activities are expected to wrap up around 5 p.m.

Theresa Scott, Floyd County extension agent for family and consumer sciences, says this year’s event was developed with the intent of providing “family-friendly fun for all ages.”

Events this year will include hiking, walking, a pink-glove walk, Zumba, a rope climb, hopscotch and more. Two new events this year are a nature walk and a dress-up relay race. During the nature walk, participants will collect leaves and other natural objects, then use them to create a collage up their return. The dress-up relay will see teams don provided costumes before competing in a relay race.

There will also be a drawing for prizes, including a grand prize of a new bicycle.

Scott reminded those wanting to attend this year’s event to listen for announcements on local radio stations if it looks like rain. But she said the forecast is looking good, so far.

“It looks like it’s going to a good weather,” Scott said. “I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”
