LANCER — A active meth lab was discovered in Prestonsburg Monday, after police were alerted to suspcious activity.
According to Assistant Chief Brian Hall, the Prestonsburg Police Department recieved a call early Monday morning that there was an active meth lab in the Lancer area, behind the Sparkling Car Wash. Hall says that neighbors reported seeing a lot of traffic back and forth to the riverbank.
When the police investigated the call, Hall says, they did find an active meth lab on the riverbank. Kentucky State Police units were called in to help with the investigation, dismantling of the lab, and cleanup.
According to court records Mike Lowe, 41, and William Shell, 34, both of Prestonsburg, were arrested with manufactuting methamphetamine. Shell was additionally charged with operating on a suspended operator’s license.
Police records state that both subjects admitted to using materials to make meth.
Hall could not say whether or not he believed meth is on the rise, but he did state that most often police find materials or remnants of a lab. Hall said this was only the second active lab he recalls being found in Prestonsburg.
