PRESTONSBURG — A Prestonsburg man was arrested Monday, after reports he was seen carrying a semi-automatic assault rifle near a nursing home.

According to police reports, Phillip Delmar Baldridge, 55, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following the incident.

The report states police received a 911 call from employees of the Riverview Nursing home of a male subject carrying an assault rifle on their property. The caller said the subject had what appeared to be an AK-47 with a large clip. When officers arrived on the scene, they were told the man was last seen near South Circle Drive.

Officers investigating the the sighting found Baldridge at his residence wearing clothes that matched those in the complaint. According to the report, Baldridge told officers that he did take an “SKS” over to the nursing home to show an employee. An SKS is a weapon similar in appearance to an AK-47.

Baldridge told police he did not take the weapon into the nursing home, but was only waiting to show the employee.

Baldridge was arrested and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center. His bond was set at $5,000 cash, and he is next scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 19 for a preliminary hearing.

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a Class D felony, which is punishable by 1-to-5 years in prison and as much as $10,000 in fines.
