PRESTONSBURG — Jenny Wiley Theatre’s take on the classic story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman comes to life on the Mountain Arts Center stage in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
Playwright Mickey Fisher has given a fresh spin on the classic tale and a play that is great for audiences of all ages. On their way to a performance, a traveling theatre troupe unfortunately breaks down near a long forgotten cemetery. While they wait for help, they decide to perform a final dress rehearsal of “Sleepy Hollow” for a mysterious vagabond who happens by. As the spooky tale unfolds, so do some unexpected real world “coincidences.”
“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was directed by newcomer Kimberly Willard, a recent graduate of the Actors Studio in New York City. The lighting design by David Gardner creates a perfect ambiance for the tale. The ensemble cast bring strong individual performance but Icabod Crane, played by David Thornton is a standout in the lead role of Icabod Crane. His persona and physicality are perfect for the role.
The Theatre reports record-setting audience numbers. You won’t want to miss this production which has only two remaining performances this week on Thursday and Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
