PRESTONSBURG — Jenny Wiley Theatre’s take on the classic story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman comes to life on the Mountain Arts Center stage in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

Playwright Mickey Fisher has given a fresh spin on the classic tale and a play that is great for audiences of all ages. On their way to a performance, a traveling theatre troupe unfortunately breaks down near a long forgotten cemetery. While they wait for help, they decide to perform a final dress rehearsal of “Sleepy Hollow” for a mysterious vagabond who happens by. As the spooky tale unfolds, so do some unexpected real world “coincidences.”

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was directed by newcomer Kimberly Willard, a recent graduate of the Actors Studio in New York City. The lighting design by David Gardner creates a perfect ambiance for the tale. The ensemble cast bring strong individual performance but Icabod Crane, played by David Thornton is a standout in the lead role of Icabod Crane. His persona and physicality are perfect for the role.

The Theatre reports record-setting audience numbers. You won’t want to miss this production which has only two remaining performances this week on Thursday and Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“We were at the show last night. It was very enjoyable. We got several good laughs out of it. Thanks again for bringing a little culture to our little community.” — Scott Byrd

“Great show tonight! Had a blast! Loved it!” — Crystal Dawn Wireman

“We were at the show last night (Oct. 13) and we loved it! ‘Grease’ was my all-time favorite that JWT has done, but this one is right up there with it! Can’t wait to see ‘A Christmas Carol’ with my family in November now!” — Lisa Stepp-Sorrell

“Great show last night! Ichabod Crane was perfect! Loved the lighting!” — Mandy Parsons
