LANGLEY – Tommy Webb has already made a name for himself in Eastern Kentucky with his brand of bluegrass, but now, Webb, a resident of Langley, is making waves on the national music scene.
The Tommy Webb Band, formed in 2005, is starting to get exposure across the country after signing with Rural Rhythm Records, which will release the band’s new album, Heartland, on April 21. The band released two albums with Kentucky-based Kindred Records before signing with the new label.
In May of 2007, the band released an album titled Eastern Kentucky which received critical acclaim from a large number of reviewers.
“Tommy Webb is a wonderfully talented and exciting new artist that I’ve become a big fan of,” said Grace Muldoon, with World Wide Bluegrass. “It’s bands like his that keep the heart of Bluegrass music beating strongly.”
Webb started singing and playing guitar at 15, performing jam sessions with some friends in the area where he lives. After high school, Webb started playing guitar with The Pine Top Ramblers, and also with a group called South Creek. Later, Webb joined Onlyne, a group he performed with for several years.
Webb sings lead and plays guitar in The Tommy Webb Band, and also plays banjo during some performances, with Kenny O’Quinn, a mandolin player, taking over for lead guitar. Chris Goble is the regular banjo musician for the band and also sings harmony. The bass player is Danny Stiltner, who also performs harmonies on the songs.
Along with a regular concert schedule, the band also plays benefit concerts, including the Ernie Thacker Benefit Show held last year in West Virginia. The concert also featured bluegrass legends Melvin Goins, Charlie Sizemore and Dave Evans.
The band has shows upcoming in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Missouri.
