PRESTONSBURG – New communications technology and free food brought people to the parking lot of the Mountain Arts Center on Tuesday to check out the MotoDriven semi-truck.
Representatives from Big Sandy Two-Way Communications were on hand to talk about the technology the company and Motorola have to offer, and to show those who stopped by the massive display center attached to the truck.
“We have a lot of great new things on display here,” said Lane Dutton, president of Big Sandy Two-Way. “The generator that powers the display is large enough to give energy to a small city.”
The display included hands-on exhibits, interactive classes and demos of the equipment that is available for purchase.
The displays included hometown safety, durability, accessories, seamless connectivity, reliable communication, enhancing situational awareness, noise suppression, emergency response, increased productivity and operational efficiency.
“This is some pretty neat stuff,” said Roger Helton, of Staffordsville. “I’m always on the hunt for new gadgets, and I’m impressed by this Motorola merchandise. I wasn’t expecting these exhibits to be so interesting. It was kind of like a giant video game, which made it fun.”
According to information provided at the event, some of the technology on display would be beneficial to coal, oil and gas companies, utilities, small companies and law enforcement.
Visitors to the event were also able to enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs
The event started at 10 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m., with Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin announcing the winners of door prizes.
