GRAYSON - Host Kentucky Christian University shot 53.4 percent from the field on its way to an 83-73 win over the Alice Lloyd College Eagles Wednesday night. The two longtime rivals met in a non-conference women’s basketball game.
The Eagles struggled early. Homestanding Kentucky Christian carried a 39-26 over Alice Lloyd into halftime.
Alice Lloyd finally discovered its offensive rhythm in the second half, putting up 47 points.
KCU, however, maintained its solid shooting, as well and used it to keep the visiting team from pulling even.
Louisa native Tanya Bowens paced Kentucky Christian with a team-high 27 points.
For ALC (7-5), junior Ariel Nickell poured in a game-high 29 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to lead the way. Sophomore guard Carla Booth, a transfer from Eastern Kentucky University, followed with 25 points.
The Knights (5-7) connected on 31-of-58 attempts from the field, including six-of-12 from beyond the arc. Kentucky Christian also shot 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe.
The Eagles hit 44.6 percent (29-of-65) of their shots from the field. But Alice Lloyd only shot 13 percent (two-of-15) from 3-point range. This proved to be the difference in the game. The Eagles also shot 68 percent (13-of-19) from the charity line.
Booth hit all six of her attempts from the foul line.
The Lady Eagles will battle visiting Brescia University on Saturday (Dec. 8). Tip-off for the Alice Lloyd-Brescia game is set for 1 p.m. at ALC’s Grady Nutt Athletic Center.
