MARTIN — A Floyd County woman was arrested for prostitution this week, after police tracked her down through an ad on Craig’s List.

Valerie King, 33, of Martin, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 13, at her home on Bucks Branch, after police found her through an ad placed on the Craig’s List website. According to the police report, King advertised sex for a fee of $100 on Craig’s List, and emailed officers “what she would and wouldn’t do for $100.” She also emailed the officers her address.

King has been in trouble with the law before, having been found guilty in the past of shoplifting and public intoxication of a controlled substance.

Attorney’s with the Floyd County Attorney’s Office say that this is the first case involving prostitution they have seen in Floyd County in some time. The last case was actually in 2002, when Patricia Shepherd pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and promoting prostitution for selling the sexual services of another woman to a Prestonsburg resident.

King pleaded guilty Wednesday to the class B misdemeanor charge of prostitution in Floyd County District Court. She will next appear in court Friday for sentencing.
