Shelby Valley teams picked to win All ‘A’ titles

PIKEVILLE - The 15th Region All “A” Classic boys’ and girls’ basketball rankings have been released and one school occupies the top spot in both team polls. No strangers to All “A” success, the Shelby Valley Wildcats and Shelby Valley Lady Kats are picked to win small-school regional titles in 2013.

Participating schools in the 2013 15th Region All “A” Classic basketball tournaments will be Allen Central, Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Lawrence County, Magoffin County, Paintsville, Phelps, Piarist School, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley, Sheldon Clark and South Floyd.

The girls’ team rankings are: 1. Shelby Valley; 2. Magoffin County; 3. Sheldon Clark; 4. Lawrence County; 5. Betsy Layne.

Magoffin County is the reigning girls’ champion.

The boys’ team rankings are: 1. Shelby Valley; 2. Paintsville; 3. Betsy Layne; 4. Pikeville; 5. Sheldon Clark.

Betsy Layne is the reigning boys’ champion. The Bobcats captured an All “A” statewide title in 2011.

Magoffin County and Shelby Valley claimed four of the top-five spots on the girls’ player rankings.

The girls’ player rankings are: 1. Jamie Castle (Magoffin County); 2. Leeza Mullins (Shelby Valley); 3. Jassmine Howard (Magoffin County); 4. Taylor Porter (Lawrence County); 5. Brianna Fraley (Shelby Valley).

The Girls’ 15th Region All “A” Classic is scheduled to tip off on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

Five different schools are represented in the 15th Region All “A” Classic boys’ player rankings.

The boys’ player rankings are: 1. Trevor Tiller (Paintsville); 2. Ethan Rowe (Pikeville); 3. Johnny Miller (East Ridge); 4. Cody Belter (Shelby Valley); 5. Peyton Case (Betsy Layne).

The Boys’ 15th Region All “A” Classic is scheduled to tip off on Friday, Jan. 4 at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
