Region champ P’burg headed to state tourney

PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg archery program is headed to another state tournament. BJ Holliday (High School Male, Region 13, NASP Overall Top Male Shooter), Wesley DePoy (Elementary Sixth Grade) and Hannah DePoy (Middle School Female) all notched first-place finishes for the Prestonsburg archery program during the Region 13 Tournament held at Sheldon Clark High School in Inez. Archery is a new sport for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA).

The 2013 National Archery in the Schools (NASP) state championship will be held March 18-19 at Louisville’s International Convention Center. Adams Middle School and Prestonsburg shooters will be competing against other archers from across the state during the tournament.

The Prestonsburg archery program is under the direction of head coach Sherman Holliday.

A recap of how the Prestonsburg archery team’s top finishers from the regional tournament follows.

Elementary 6th Grade Female - Tianna Shepherd, 5th.

Elementary Male 6th Grade Division - Scott Thompson, 2nd; Wesley Depoy, 1st.

Middle School Female Division - Hannah Stratton, 2nd; Hannah Depoy, 1st.

Middle School Male Division - Andrew Blackburn, 5th; Seth Hammonds, 4th; Chris Little, 3rd; Camron Price, 2nd.

High School Female Division - Emily Sparks, 4th.

High School Male Division - Colten Shepherd, 2nd; BJ Holliday, 1st (Region 13, NASP Overall Male Top Shooter).
