FREEBURN — A Pike County woman is recovering from a gunshot wound, while the man who allegedly gave it to her continues to sit in jail.

Kentucky State Police received a report of the shooting late Friday night. When they arrived on the scene, they found the woman with a gunshot wound in her abdomen. She was transported to Holston Valley Hospital, in Kingsport, Tenn., where she was listed in stable condition.

After investigating, police arrested Eric Wolford, 31, of Freeburn. He was charged with one count of first-degree assault, as well as a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Wolford remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

KSP Det. Jason Merlo is investigating the incident.
