P’burg doubles up Paintsvuille, advances to finals

LOUISA - Prestonsburg prevailed in the opening round of the 57th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament Tuesday night at Lawrence County. The Lady Blackcats doubled up Paintsville 4-2 in an opening round contest. With the win, Prestonsburg advanced to the district title match.

The victory allowed Prestonsburg to improve to 12-9-0.

After absorbing the loss, Paintsville ended the season 9-7-0.

Sophomore forward Katie Porter paced Prestonsburg with two goals. Freshman forward Jackie Kidd and senior forward Ally Branham added one goal apiece for the Lady Blackcats.

Porter, Jackie Kidd and senior midfielder Caitlin Kidd each had an assist for the Lady Blackcats.

Defensively, Prestonsburg goalkeeper Autumn Hall held Lawrence County to two goals.

Prestonsburg, under the direction of head coach Scott Porter, posted its third straight win.

The Lady Blackcats were playing host Lawrence County in the district championship match on Thursday evening. Results from the title match were unavailable at press time.

Lawrence County 10, Johnson Central 0: After shutting out Sheldon Clark 9-0 in the play-in game, Johnson Central was held scoreless Tuesday evening. Host Lawrence County leveled Johnson Central, defeating the Lady Eagles 10-0.

Shelby Hay led Lawrence County with four goals. Ashleigh Adkins, Addison Frazier and Mollie Workman netted two goals apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

Workman registered a team-high three assists for the Lawrence County girls’ soccer team. Hay had two assists as the Lady Bulldogs won convincingly.

Defensively, Lawrence County goalkeeper Catherine Clay held Johnson Central scoreless.
