EASTERN - The Prestonsburg Blackcats claimed the Floyd County C-Team title with a hard fought 6-0 win over Betsy Layne on Saturday at Allen Central’s Don Daniels Field.
Late in the first quarter, Prestonsburg running back Colby Fugate took a handoff and race for a 35-yard touchdown. The Betsy Layne defense stepped up and stopped the two-point conversion following Fugate’s scoring run.
After swapping multiple possessions with Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg packed the 6-0 advantage lead into halftime.
With two minutes remaining, Prestonsburg appeared ready to score when the Betsy Layne defense forced a fumble on the three-yard line.
With 22 seconds left and Betsy Layne looking to convert on a fourth-and-10 from the 40-yard line, Prestonsburg defender Luke Hyden stopped a sweep attempt and sealed the win for the Bobcats. Prestonsburg took over and ran out the clock to win 6-0 and claim the Floyd County Championship.
