LEBANON, Tenn. – No. 7 Cumberland University made short work of the University of Pikeville Thursday night in a 60-39 win at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.

The Bulldogs put the clamps on the Bears early on and never looked back in picking up their 19th win in 20 outings, their 10th compared to one Mid-South Conference loss.

Cumberland scored the game’s first 14 points, forcing eight Bear turnovers before allowing a point. When sophomore Whitney Belle Jackson finally scored with 12:02 left on a layup, it ended an 0-for-7 stretch to start the game and cut the lead to 14-2.

By the half, Cumberland had allowed the Bears only four field goals and held a 36-9 lead.

The second half was much better for the Bears, who outscored the Bulldogs 30-24. Pikeville limited Cumberland to only 35.5 percent shooting and 1-of-14 from the arc in the second half.

Pikeville (5-13, 2-9) had two players in double figures. Jackson led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior Brogan Conley followed with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Senior Sally Roberts had five of her team’s seven steals in the loss.

Cumberland had a balanced attack that allowed only two players reach double digits. Senior guard Josette Campbell tossed in 12 while junior London Elie added 10.
