Lindsey Wilson picked to win MSC volleyball title

LOUISVILLE - The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team is predicted to win the Mid-South Conference title in 2012, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Friday by conference officials.

Lindsey Wilson received 99 voting points from the conference coaches, including nine of the 11 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Blue Raiders captured the program’s first MSC regular-season and tournament titles in 2011 after finishing 31-3 overall and 10-2 in the conference.

Campbellsville University is projected to finish second in the Mid-South after picking up 87 voting points from the conference coaches and one first-place vote. Georgetown College is a close third with 86 voting points and the final first-place vote.

University of the Rio Grande - who won the East Division last season with a 6-5 conference record - is fourth in the preseason poll with 65 voting points. The Mid-South is not using divisions in 2012.

University of the Cumberlands is projected to end up in fifth after garnering 62 voting points followed by Shawnee State University with 50 voting points. MSC newcomer Cumberland University (48 voting points) is seventh, St. Catharine College (44) is eighth and UVa.-Wise (27) is ninth in the preseason poll.

Bluefield College - also playing in its first season in the MSC - is 10th with 25 voting points and University of Pikeville is 11th with 12 voting points in the preseason poll

The 2012 MSC volleyball season will begin later this month and concludes with the conference tournament Nov. 9-10 at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort.
