Johnson Central blanks Blackcats in opener

PAINTSVILLE - The Prestonsburg Blackcats suffered a season-ending loss to Johnson Central in the opening round of the 57th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament at Paintsville. Johnson Central blanked Prestonsburg 4-0 in the postseason meeting.

Prestonsburg exited the season 2-11-3.

Johnson Central claimed a shutout win over Prestonsburg in the play-in game of the three-team district tournament.

The Eagles advanced to face Paintsville in the district title match Wednesday evening.

Prestonsburg defeated Johnson Central and Wolfe County early in the regular-season. The Blackcats, under the guidance of head coach Emily Rizzo, defeated Johnson Central 3-1 and blanked Wolfe County 4-0. Prestonsburg was 2-1 through its first three games then fell short in five straight contests. The Blackcats battled to a tie with Hazard twice and Shelby Valley once during the regular-season.
