Young performers with an eye toward the stage are invited to as audition next month when Jenny Wiley Theatre begins casting for their summer 2013 productions.
Jenny Wiley Theatre will be holding its auditions at the following times, and also encourages planned participants to get involved in the Professional Audition Workshop.
Auditions will begin Jan. 7 and 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., for The Taming of the Shrew. Young performers ages 12-18 are encouraged to audition.
Auditions for Jenny Wiley Theatre’s 2013 season will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s season includes productions of “Church Basement Ladies,” “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma,” “The Legend of Jenny Wiley” and “Miracle on 34th Street.” All audition dates will be held at Jenny Wiley Theatre’s new indoor facility, located at 218 Second Street, in Pikeville. Organizers sayd that in the event of inclement weather, an alternate date of Feb. 23 is scheduled.
Local and regional adult actors are also encouraged to audition for a broad range of roles. Opportunities exist for both full season and individual show contracts.
Jenny Wiley Theatre’s training school, Footlights Theatre Camp, plans to offer a fun and exciting performance-based workshops for grades 1-5 and grades 6-9 . Young performers will have the opportunity to be involved in creating a show with talented directors and designers, with two public performances on the JWT main stage.
The productions for this years Footlights Theatre Camps include productions of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “Seussical the Musical Jr.” Organizers say they strongly encourage prospective performers to audition in January if they plan to participate in the Footlights camp. According to the group’s website, attendance at the Footlights camp for the “Jungle Book” production (grades 1-5) is $195, if registered before May 1, or $225 after. The cost of attending the “Suessical” camp, (grades 6-9) is $225 before May 1, and $255 after.
The Professional Audition Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants are expected to gain insight from industry professionals who understand the process, and learn how best to prepare for that all-important two-minute audition. Participants will also receive specific feedback on current audition materials and individualized instruction to strengthen their overall performance. Organizers say that the Professional Audition Workshop is highly recommended for anyone auditioning for the Governor’s School for the Arts.
The workshop will be led by casting and theatre professional Misty Daniels and music and voice director instructor Jennifer Hughes Bersaglia.
The cost to attend the workshop is $70 per participant and all applications with payment must be received by Jan. 9. This workshop is designed for participants ages 8 and up and limited to 20 participants. Students under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The workshop will also be held at the Jenny Wiley Theatre Pikeville location.
