PRESTONSBURG — A 25-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police is getting ready to retire, but he isn’t going quietly. Instead, he has chosen to use the occasion to help a struggling school.
Mike Goble, who serves on the newly-created board of the David School, is retiring this year from KSP. On his way out the door, however, the school is throwing a retirement party for him, at which money will be raised to benefit the school.
The event has attracted the attention Goble’s higher-ups. In fact, State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer will be attending the party as the featured guest.
The fundraiser comes following a troubling year for the school, which saw its founder and director, Danny Greene, ousted following allegations of financial mismanagement. Despite the problems, the school is now looking to move forward and reopen its doors to students this year.
The party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., August 14, at the Mountain Arts Center.
